'Time well spent'
The most ancient language to my knowledge is spoken by the universe that surrounds me. I feel that the universe on every level of consciousness is communicating to me constantly and in many ways. At the centre point of my being in the place where my essence dwells, beyond all of the layers of consciousness I think sits a divine spark of being which is in communication with the world that encircles me. I receive messages of form, colour, sound, feeling, smell and taste that present themselves in dreams and in waking life. I’m sure there are a whole collection of other senses I have too that I would find difficult to fully comprehend at this time. I find it fascinating that we all enter the world with a complete capacity to understand, receive and transmit the language of the universe right from birth. We all get the same feelings from the many modes of communication that surround us and dance with our souls.
Colours have always been a big love for me, they are beautiful and luscious. I think the language of colour is very complex and one we all understand from birth. Colours are so closely linked to our emotions and thoughts. Red and yellow; stimulates and excites, blue and green; calms and pacifies, purple and lilac; mystifies and intrigues and so on.
I feel that by learning to use these languages as a method of expression I have gained a closer link to my spiritual side and have developed a deeper relationship with the earth. I also feel that by speaking the languages of the universe I have gained a deeper understanding of myself and who I am.
Whenever I am engaged in the act of painting
'In a world of my own'
I feel that I enter a meditational state and my mind feels free and more able to drift into a spiritual space. I feel that by being creative I am opening myself to possibility and opening my mind. In this space thoughts and time travel in a less linear fashion and thoughts are free to drift in and out of my mind like clouds floating through the sky. I also feel that when I have completed a painting I can stand back and observe something which was born out of thoughts in my mind. The painting reflects feelings and thoughts flashing through my brain perhaps guided by my soul. I feel that by observing the painting I can better understand the workings of my mind. I also feel that the reactions other people have to my artwork somehow helps me to understand myself more.
I feel that self expression helps people to externalise and share the innermost workings of themselves and somehow it helps to bridge a gap between our separate minds. I feel that self expression and art can help us express the indescribable and develop our awareness of our minds and how they work. I also feel that by being creative we can develop a greater appreciation for the ultimate masterpiece, the world around us, and can realize new heights of respect for the unbelievable intricacy, flawless detail and boundless beauty of the creative expressions of the earth and the universe.
For me being creative is a spiritual journey and practise. It has been my guide and teacher and has developed my awareness of myself and the world around me. I see my pictures as offerings to the divine, the divine in you and in all things. Peace and love.
