Spirit Rescue - [ A Hundred Years of Spirit Rescue Work - part 2 ]
Frederic Wood continued sp to discuss Spirit Rescue work in both World Wars, in his books: "Mediumship and War" (London, Rider & Company, March 1941), and "A New Era of for Psychics" (same publisher, July, 1943).
"Still another pitiful result of Materialism is that this War, like the last, found us unprepared psychically, as well as in other ways. Had we established regular contact with the Spirit World, I mean officially recognised contact, not just private home circles, we might at least have planned some organised cooperation with the Spirit World in what we might call the Psychic Front, for help in such cases as those already described. [I think Frederic Wood is here indicting the Archbishop of Canterbury for not having published the Church's 1939 report on Spiritualism, which might have effectivley spread the practice of Spirit Release throughoutt the ensuing war. It took a retired commanding officer, Lord Dowding, to do the Church's work for them.]
In nothing does this lack of knowledge and cooperation show itself more stupidly than in the complete absence of any systematic help for the newly-passed. Well-meaning and devout people evade the question by saying 'they are in God's care.' We might reply that a soldier who falls wounded on the battlefield is equally 'in God's care', but that does not prevent us from organising stretcher-bearers, first-aid, casualty clearing-stations, and base hospitals.
Such devout people would probably meet this by saying that "God's angels" will look after the soldier when he is dead. That is truer than they know. Let me recall an incident from my personal experience.
It was the day after the landing at Suvla Bay in Gallipoli in 1915, [in which my great-uncle Ernest Weatherhead, an army medical doctor also took part, where he witnessed the wholesale massacre of the allied troops, taken by surprise by the enemy lying in wait - R.T.C.R.]
I (Frederic Wood) was one of a large circle who listened to 'Dr. Sharp', the medical control of Mrs. Etta Wreidt (the American direct-voice medim) as he told of their rescue work at Suvla the previous day.
"We do not thank you for sending them over here in thousands at a time," Dr. Sharp told us. "These young men had the right to live out their Earth-lives properly. We help them all, whether British, Germans, Italians or Turks, for to us they are all children of the one Great Father. Therefore give us your prayers, good people, for God knows we need them at this time!"
But they need something more than prayers, for the tragedy in many such cases is that they require help from this side too. Among the many uses to which the power generated in the Rosemary sittings is applied is that of using my study as a casualty-clearing station for triage of war victims. Rosemary's friend Miss W--- has devoted a room for the same purpose in her own home. No other living person enters it. At one end is a table always supplied with a few fresh flowers; "something living on your side", we were told, "to make the link for those who have not yet realised our world".
The three of us held a sitting in that room on December 26, 1940. Rosemary described what she saw: "They have constructed what appear to be wires all round the room, horizontally, from floor to ceiling. These not only keep away spirit intruders, but radiate light, a clear white light, for healing purposes. In the centre is a table with an altar light upon it, used as a focus for attraction. Here the guides bring the victims of bomb destruction, sometimes hundreds in a day, for treatment. They do not remain long, for this is merely a First-Aid post, from which they are sorted out and sent to various spirit hospitals according to their needs.
"Here they are relieved of their first earth shock, by a process which is a smoothing-out of a vibration which has become irregular. The light from the wires helps in this. They are then taken away from the Earth sphere altogether, for a time. But for this, many of them would otherwise revisit the scenes of their passing, for the shock to the psychic envelope of the spirit is very dangerous in cases of sudden and violent death."
Hunda Singh and Yen San, two of my personal guides, who had transmitted these details through Rosemary, then thanked Miss W--- for placing the room at the guides' disposal. "The work could not done in a house where the tenant was hostile", they added: "and if such a person entered this room regularly, the conditions would be seriously upset."
Many others are asked to organise similar clearing stations of their own. Even a medium is not necessary, for we ALL have spirit guides, whether we know and accept the fact or not. All that is required is a sympathetic atmosphere - this includes prayers for the victims and workers alike - and a room set apart for the purpose in the manner I have described. The spirit guides will do the rest.
Both Frederic's mother and brother in spirit stated that many more such clearing houses were needed. "Condition over here are terrible," said his mother, "You have no idea !" "Clearing houses like this are needed in great numbers," said his brother on September qw, 1940. "The present evil over Germany is worse than in any previous period of European history. The death penalty is applied for almost everything, and those who pass under these conditions are often earthbound in a quagmire from which it is difficult to rescue them. Obsession will be a great problem after this War."
Many doctors [and now psychiatrists] are already interested in the psychic side of their work. Also, a social worker wrote to Frederic from London " I shall try to form a small circle here for the relief of those in trouble on the Other Side. We should not expect to be a power-station like yours, but if it is right there may be growth."
The guide Nona herself broadcast an appeal to all psychic workers which I published in The Two Worlds magazine on November 1, 1940:- "We are trying to build up a force of mediums whose power should increase so that we can help later on in ways I need not describe now."
That will be after the War. Nona is looking ahead to that difficult time. In a later session, Nona said "There never has been a more difficult age than this: never a time when so many ignorant forces have dwelt with evil-intentioned ones. Young souls are here as humans for the first, second, and even third time. They cause nearly all the trouble in the world. The real danger of War always comes from them Older souls have outgrown this barbarism. [In 2013, the situation is the same, whether it concerns the vast hoards of WMDs stockpiled by the USA and other Western nations, or the random or organised assaults of various terrorist groups]. There can be no settlement at all until you can get all the nations of the world to meet in a genuine desire to promote Peace. How long do you think that will be ? There will have to be a general pooling as it were of the world's natural resources, and a willingness to allow all to have access to these. Do you think all nations are ready to grant that ?"
