Coping with Sleep Paralysis
By Bruce Darwill

There may be times just before falling asleep or when waking up when you find yourself in a not so pleasant situation of being completely physically paralysed and unable to move anything except your eyes. You may also experience a mild to intense vibration inside your body. During this state know as sleep or waking paralysis you can try to shout for help whilst being completely helpless.

Furthermore you may experience the nightmare situation where you feel you are and under attack by some sort of ghost or unknown entity. If you do find yourself in this situation then you have a few choices. Prevention is best but once it has started you can either stop the waking paralysis or convert it to a full or partial out of body experience.

Stopping the waking paralysis
To stop the sleep paralysis you can concentrate all your mind and thoughts on moving your fingers and toes. This will eventually stop the waking paralysis.

Converting to an OBE

During sleep paralysis it is possible to lift your etheric or astral limbs or other parts out of the physical body. It is better if you lift all of yourself out though and there are hundreds of books and webpages that give you techniques on how to get out of your body. Put simply you feel yourself being moved out of your physical body. If you concentrate this will happen and you will find yourself in the astral realms or in the real-time zone.

Preventing waking paralysis

Healthy sleep pattern: If you change your sleep patterns and end up trying to sleep when your mind is not tired then paralysis is more likely to occur.

Catching it before it occurs:

If you feel waking paralysis about to happen (very deep falling sensation) you can suddenly move your physical body to prevent it. You may find that when going back to sleep the sensations start again. At this point it is best to get up and do something physical for about 10-15 minutes.

Encounters with other beings:

There are many cases where people have felt pressure on their chest or witnessed a creepy shadow figure at the end of the bed. Scientists put this down to hallucinations but can this be the case for all the thousands of people who experience these phenomena? During the paralytic state the body still feels emotions, pain, and all senses just as in normal physical life. It would make sense for scientists to try having these experiences before dismissing this phenomenon. The truth is the truth regardless of how it is perceived. It is total ignorance to believe we are the only beings in existence.

Regardless of what it is you can still protect yourself from these beings or hallucinations. See the article Out of Body combat techniques.

Hi, I've tried emailing you a couple of times using your website links, and unfortunately your server seems to be down. Is there an alternative way of contacting you?

Thank you

Abbey,

My explanation is that the physical body sleeps and the conscious mind stays awake. You become part of your etherical body and are vibrating at a higher level than your physical body.

You can try to lift yourself out or perhaps just try a limb or two. If you are scared of the darkness then I suggest doing this when the sun rises.

Last night I experienced waking paralysis about 7 different times.

Hope this helps.

If interested in understanding the phenomena better as this will ease some of the fear surrounding it, go to 'theartofastralprojection.com'

I would be feel it about to happen and at the point when I couldn't move it felt like another person was laying on top of me then they would fall through my body, as soon as that happened I could move! It used to scare me so much I didn't want to go to sleep. Hasn't happened for about a year now thank goodness was so horrible !!!

Louisa Sullivan,

Thanks for your comment. Scientists believe that the mind stays awake during the sleep process and when we sleep our body is deactivated to stop us acting out our sleep. This is caused by overactive mind or even a neurological phenomena. Sleeping during the day and then at night is a common way to induce the paralytic state.

From another viewpoint I have experienced many clients who have experienced sleep paralysis during a haunting and experienced quite unpleasant things.

The fact that from the paralysis state it is possible to have an out of body experience would suggest that the body sleeps whilst the conscious mind is still active. Therefor, if we are to believe that it is hallucination then out of body experiences should also be placed in the same category as mere hallucinations.

Nobody can be sure about anything but of the fact that it is a miracle that we even exist. Ignorance would keep us from evolving and discovering new vibrations and states of existence.

I certainly cannot let anyone choose for me what is real and what is not. If we experience something then it is real.
Scientists usually get their realities from books and not by experience. This may make them feel superior or safe but in the end they will end up as everyone else, floating and existing in another vibration wondering what is going on.

best regards,

Bruce

What you have experienced does sound quite suspicious. I would not ignore your instincts.

Before going to sleep ask your guides and angels to protect you. You can feel / visualize Armour around you and uncut amber crystal works well also.I will send some protection in the next hour.

If these events continue please e-mail me and I will see if I can help resolve what is causing these events.

best regards,

Bruce

Hi there i just read this and wow its exactly why i am too scared to go to bed tonight. This has happened to me numerous times, and on a few occasions where paralysis took full effect ihave seen what i beleive is a spirit though not the same one or type if that makes snes. Most occasion i have broken the paralysis before seeing anything by the method you describe in step 1. I always take this feeling as it a sign of a spirit approaching now itihnk maybe im wrong after reading your article..

Last night i was asleep half n half but having a dream i thought when a man whispered he was dead and i know this sounds crazy but i was scared it was like he wanted to touch me in a forceful way i think you know what im refering to. I didnt see him just felt and heard , i remember thinking i was dreaming badly n saying no no no then felt the paralysis and i broke out of it eventually. I still feel like ican feel this presence but im not sure if i am just being paranoid please help me what can i do as i am scared to sleep

Hi Bruce,
I found your article really interesting as I have this happening to me at the moment. It is an unpleasant experience and I will certainly try your recommendations. I doesn't happen all the time only sometimes and I find my self unable to call out or scream and my body is completely paralyzed. Do you know what actually causes this?

many thanks Louisa

I've experienced this a few times and it can be really scary. But once you realise you can control it, by focussing on moving your physical body and waking yourself up, the fear of it re-occurring can be reduced.

My experiences and consequent investigations suggest that deep, prolongued, or acute anxiety is the pre-curser to these type of experiences. So when faced with this type of encounter, we need to take a look at what's causing underlying fear and anxiety, rather than focussing on the fear generated because of the sleep paralysis experience.

I agree entirely with your comments about the ignorance of scientists, who label anything they can't understand about consciousness as 'hallucination'. If we believed everything they told us, we'd sign ourselves into the nearest psychiatric ward, believing we were imagining our psychic and spiritual experiences! However, I'm sure this will change once we start feeling the new changes coming in over the next few months and years. Which cannot be explained scientifically, but because they are affecting so many people, will have to be considered as 'real'!

We do have to be careful though, when dealing with psychic experiences, because our imagination and ego will try to influence us. So we must always use discernment to keep ourselves safe.

Great timing for this article. Thanks for posting!
